Abstract
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease which affects mainly women population between the third and fourth decade of life and european ancestry with a prevalence of 60-100/100.000 population in the USA. The diagnosis is very infrequent in the pediatric population (18 years old or younger), been only 2.7-5 per cent of the total population with MS and the clinical manifestations may vary in comparison with older population. It is always important to have in mind the differential diagnosis which include acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) with its recurrent and multiphasic forms, neuromyelitis optica (NMO), mitochondrial diseases and the clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) among others.
The medications for acute or chronic disease for adults are the same used for children. We need to have into consideration that the studies have only described a small population of these patients receiving therapy and that the dose may vary according to the age and weight of the patient.
The present document will make emphasis in diagnosis, prognosis and therapy for MS in this special population.
