Resumen
Introducción: el conocimiento, las actividades y prácticas de la población acerca del ataque cerebrovascular (ACV) son herramientas fundamentales para la prevención. El objetivo de este artículo fue describir el nivel de conocimiento del ACV, sus factores riesgo, actitudes y prácticas entre cuidadores y familiares.
Materiales y métodos: artículo de tipo corte transversal en una institución de alta complejidad, en 73 familiares y cuidadores de pacientes con ACV agudo, que ingresaron entre noviembre de 2015 y enero de 2017, a los cuales se les aplicó un instrumento tipo encuesta de actitudes conocimiento y prácticas (CAP) vía telefónica.
Resultados: el promedio de la población fue de 70,8 ± 13,6 años y el 69,9?% (n?=?51) eran cuidadores. Solo 4 de los 17 factores de riesgo (edad, HTA, coagulopatías y antecedente de trombosis) fueron identificados. El 97,3?% (n?=?71) reconoció la desviación de la cara como un síntoma de la enfermedad y el 91,4?% (n?=?66) identificaron al cerebro como el principal órgano afectado. En las respuestas de formas más populares para prevenir el ACV estuvo “controlar la presión sanguínea” con un 54,8?% de los encuestados (n?=?40), mientras que el 42,5?% restante (n?=?31) manifestó que, en caso de presenciar un ACV, como primera medida, llamaría a un hospital.
Discusión: los hallazgos son concordantes con la literatura, aunque se necesita una mayor conocimiento sobre la terapia trombolítica y los factores de riesgo, así como una mayor educación en familiares y cuidadores.
Conclusiones: los familiares y cuidadores tienen un bajo reconocimiento de los factores de riesgo, pero identifican ampliamente los signos y síntomas clásicos, ahora bien, desconocen la terapia trombolítica y no asisten a reuniones educativas, ni tienen interés en recibir información sobre el ACV.
