Resumen
El estatus epiléptico (EE) en los niños es la emergencia neurológica más común en urgencias, es una condición médica que coloca en riesgo la vida del menor y requiere pronto reconocimiento y tratamiento, no solo para detener la crisis, sino evitar las consecuencias hemodinámicas, sistémicas y subsecuente deterioro neurológico, y potencial mortalidad.
En este artículo se trataran aspectos epidemiologícos, clasificación, etiología, abordaje diagnóstico y tratamiento del EE, mencionando los nuevos medicamentos y otras posibilidades terapéuticas, incluyendo aspectos como cirugía en el tratamiento del EE refractario y el pronóstico.
