Resumen

La estimulación magnética transcraneal (EMT) es en la actualidad el método no invasivo por excelencia para el estudio de las áreas corticales en el cerebro humano, descubriendo procesos neurales en sujetos normales, así como en el tratamiento de enfermedades neurológicas y psiquiátricas refractarias. Su mecanismo de acción se desconoce. La EMT induce estimulación magnética de las neuronas en la corteza cerebral, llegando a ser excitadas, disparando potenciales de acción y liberando neurotransmisores en las neuronas postsinápticas. Esta revisión presenta una descripción general del uso de la TMS en diagnóstico, pronóstico y neurorrehabilitación post ACV.
