Abstract
INTRODUCTION: intoxications with delictive intention are frequent in emergency room.
OBJECTIVE: to make an epidemiological description about delinquent intoxications that have been attended at Clínica de Toxicología Uribe Cualla SA, a reference center, in Bogotá-Colombia.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: we review all clinical files of patients that attended emergency room of Clínica Uribe Cualla SA. in Bogotá D.C. since January 1998 to July 2004.
RESULTS: 860 clinical files were reviewed. We found a greater frequency of this intoxication in young people and male gender. The main cause was robbery.
CONCLUSION: data obtained during this research match with some isolated data formerly reported by other medical centers in Colombia. Being Clínica Uribe Cualla SA a reference center its patient’s profile help us to understand the epidemiological characteristics of this type of intoxication among us (Acta Neurol Colomb 2005;21:197-201).
