2006 Colombian consensus in epilepsy

Abstract

Summoned by the Asociacion Colombiana de Neurologia, a group of neurologists and neuropediatricians, dedicated to epilepsy and widely recognized by their work in the field, have arrived at the following CONSENSUS on the main topics of epilepsy: Basic definitions of terms, classifications of seizures and syndromes - with a special emphasis on the 2.001 proposal of the ILAE, ictal semiology, clinical characteristics of the main epileptic syndromes, clinical criteria for diagnosis along the main age groups, Therapeutic strategies for the main epileptic syndromes, epilepsy and pregnancy, main ancillary studies (neurophysiologic and neuroimages), status epilepticus, refractory epilepsy and surgery. The main text is supported by various attachments presenting and discussing the main classifications, psicosocial issues, aetiology, prognosis and genetics of epilepsy.
