Resumen
La migraña es una de las cefaleas primarias. La prevalencia de la migraña se encuentra entre 8-25%, con una razón hombre mujer de 1:3. Esta condición genera gran incapacidad y representa un costo indirecto anual hasta de 13 billones de dólares en Estados Unidos. Sus mecanismos fisiopatológicos continúan debatiéndose. Se ha propuesto que el compromiso del sistema nervioso autónomo es un componente importante en la génesis de la migraña y que explica buena parte de los síntomas de estos pacientes (vasoconstricción cutánea, diarrea, nauseas, y diaforesis).
En el presente artículo se hace una revisión de la evidencia científica acerca del papel que juega el sistema nervioso autónomo en la patogénesis de la migraña (Acta Neurol Colomb 2005;21:202-208).
