Abstract

In 1961 Holter developed a small system for recording cardiac arrhythmias that could be used in ambulatory form. Different studies have confirmed the usefulness of ambulatory electroencephalographic monitoring to differ syncope from epileptic seizures. Another study demonstrated that electroencephalographic crises were obtained in 15 per cent of ambulatory studies compared with 0 per cent in routine EEG. Also there are systems that can record simultaneous video with EEG’s activity in ambulatory form. Ambulatory EEG monitoring can have some disadvantages. In a previous study we suggested that the ambulatory registration can be economically favorable diminishing costs in 55-80 per cent. The usefulness of ambulatory EEG for paroxysm study is unquestionable. More studies are necessary to compare the usefulness of the ambulatory EEG in children candidates for surgery.
