Resumen

La migraña es una enfermedad neurobiológica. Diversas estructuras cerebrales participan en el procesamiento del dolor, con la presencia de fenómenos neuronales y bioquímicos que modulan la respuesta del sistema nervioso. A través de los estudios realizados se puede observar la presencia de diferentes elementos que participan en la generación de la migraña; estos pueden ser estructurales (alteración de sustancia gris periacueductal y núcleos del rafé), genéticos, neuronales como la depresión cortical diseminada y la liberación de múltiples neurotransmisores entre los que predominan el péptido relacionado con el gen de la calcitonina y la serotonina, que median diferentes tipos de alteraciones durante el proceso de inflamación neurogénica, y cambios en funcionamiento de múltiples áreas como sistema nervioso autónomo entre otras.
