Abstract
Clinical, electroencephalographic and imagenologic facts in adults with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) belonging Universidad de Antioquia's Epilepsy Program were established.
METHODS:Descriptive, retrospective and observational study of 41 patients older 18 years who had typical semiology or TLE diagnosis, video electroencephalographic (EEG) monitoring and cerebral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
RESULTS:51.2% were males, most frequent epilepsy was mesial (90.2%), 70.3% patients had aura-preceding seizure and epigastric was the most common (34.2%); automatisms were found in 97.5% patients and the most common was oral-feeding (80.6%); 61% patients had secondary generalization. Main antecedents were febrile seizures (34.1%) and trauma brain injury in 26.8%. EEG recording show dissemination further temporal lobe in 75.6% patients and hippocampal sclerosis (HS) is the first cause.
CONCLUSIONS:TLE have manifestations and EEG facts widely heterogeneous, HS are the most frequent causes.
