Resumen
OBJETIVO: describir algunas complicaciones neurológicas del paciente VIH positivo en el servicio de medicina interna del Hospital Universitario Hernando Moncaleano Perdomo de Neiva entre el período comprendido del 1 de junio del 2001 al 31 de junio 2004.
MÉTODOS: estudio descriptivo retrospectivo. La recolección de datos se realizó a partir de los registros estadísticos del servicio de medicina interna, tomando como población todos los pacientes VIH positivos que ingresaron durante este período, haciendo revisión de las historias clínicas.
RESULTADOS: la población total fue de 86 pacientes, de los cuales 67 (78%) presentaban manifestaciones neurológicas. El 45 por ciento se encontraban en el grupo etáreo de 31-40 años, seguidos por un 22 por ciento del grupo de 21-30 años. El 89 por ciento de los pacientes eran hombres y el 53 por ciento procedían de Neiva, según el estado civil 76 por ciento vivían en unión libre, 12 por ciento eran solteros. El 89 por ciento de los pacientes cursaron con otra patología concomitante, siendo las más frecuentes candidiasis oronfaríngea y neumonía con 13 por ciento cada una. Las manifestaciones clínicas más frecuentes fueron fiebre y cefalea con (60% y 57 % respectivamente).
El diagnóstico principal fue toxoplasmosis cerebral (37%), seguido por neuroinfección inespecífica (22%) y criptococosis cerebral (16%). La mortalidad fue del45 por ciento.
CONCLUSIONES: en la población analizada el grupo etáreo más afectado fue de 31-40 años, con un mayor porcentaje de hombres y la toxoplasmosis cerebral fue la neuroinfección predominante.
