La tartamudez como un fenómeno prearticulatorio

Aunque la tartamudez como déficit motor sigue abonando estudios, investigaciones sugieren que las disfluencias son resultado de fallos en el procesamiento lingüístico. Experimentos comparando el desempeño de niños y adultos con tartamudez en tareas de producción, en particular repetición de pseudopalabras y lectura silente, proveen evidencia sobre un déficit en la codificación fonológica. Estos hallazgos sugieren que los eventos de tartamudez ocurren de forma prearticulatoria. La teoría del monitoreo del habla de Levelt resulta útil para explicar la naturaleza de las disfluencias. Levelt plantea que la monitorización de las representaciones internas durante la codificación del habla permite la autocorrección espontánea de los errores en la producción. Este texto examina la tartamudez desde la teoría del monitoreo del habla interna de Levelt, y presenta la evidencia que correlaciona la tartamudez con esta perspectiva.
